African football has taken another coordinated step on the global stage, with all 54 CAF member associations agreeing to support Gianni Infantino for the next FIFA presidential term. The decision, reached during a strategic meeting in Vancouver, reflects a continent preparing to assert its influence ahead of a pivotal election cycle.
CAF president Patrice Motsepe hosted the gathering on the eve of the 76th FIFA Congress, where delegates unanimously endorsed Infantino for the 2027–2031 mandate. CAF later confirmed the decision in an official statement, emphasising the unity shown across its entire membership.
A rare moment of complete alignment
CAF’s unanimous stance highlights a broader shift in how African federations approach global football politics. Many associations view continuity at FIFA level as essential for development funding, infrastructure expansion and increased representation in international competitions. The collective decision also signals a desire to maintain stability during a period of rapid change in world football.
A symbolic build‑up to a historic vote
The 2027 FIFA presidential election will take place on March 18 in Morocco — the first time the vote will be held on African soil. CAF’s early endorsement strengthens the continent’s position ahead of a landmark moment, ensuring Africa enters the election cycle with a unified message and a clear political direction.
Strengthening Africa’s voice in global governance
A coordinated voting bloc gives CAF greater leverage in negotiations involving World Cup pathways, youth development investment and expanded competition slots. The unanimous backing also suggests Africa intends to play a more assertive role in shaping FIFA’s long‑term agenda, using unity as its primary strategic tool.
CAF’s decision marks one of the strongest demonstrations of continental cohesion in recent years — a signal that Africa plans to influence the 2027 election from a position of collective strength.
